Term Law Clerk

The court is seeking well qualified applicants for a full-time, Term Law
Clerk position in our Bakersfield office. The incumbent will support U.S.
Magistrate Judge Jennifer L. Thurston by conducting extensive research
and writing on prisoner petitions of Habeas Corpus and a wide range of
other issues arising in non-prisoner civil litigation. The incumbent also
will assist Judge Thurston with managing her case load and preparing for
case related hearings, conferences and trials.
The position is available for an immediate start date of employment with
an initial term of appointment of one year (subject to renewal for up to
three additional years).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
For consideration, applicants must be law school graduates with strong
academic records and must possess the following:
 At least one year of post-graduate civil litigation work experience. Work
experience with habeas actions and/or prior federal clerkship experience is
highly preferred.
 Bar membership in a state, territory or federal court of general
jurisdiction.
 Strong demonstrated writing, research and case management skills.
 The ability to work independently in a production oriented, highvolume
work environment.

 As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will be subject
