KCBA Charitable Foundation Mission Statement
The KCBA Charitable Foundation seeks to preserve and enhance public trust in the legal system and the legal profession. The Foundation provides an outlet for charitable giving which will recognize, promote, and encourage professionalism, equal access to justice and public awareness of the role of judges and lawyers in our community.
What We Do
We are stimulating interest in the law in students at all levels, we are recognizing and promoting the efforts and roles of our judges and judicial officers, and we are giving back to the community in many ways.
Open Doors to Federal Courts
Since 2006 we have partnered with the United States District Court and the West and Arkelian Foundations to annually sponsor Open Doors to Federal Courts, which provides speakers from federal agencies to speak to 250 local high school students about our Federal Courts and the careers associated with work in the Federal Courts and Agents; as well as a Mock Court experience.
Celebration Reception
Since 2011 we have recognized those members of our legal system who serve our community as Judicial Officers; providing our community access to justice locally. At this event, we also take the opportunity to celebrate the lives of those lawyers and judges who have passed away over the last year, but whose contributions to our legal community will be remembered.
Judge Arthur E. Wallace Scholarship
In 2011 we established a scholarship that is annually awarded to a second or third year law student who has a demonstrable tie to Kern County, and whose academic and personal qualifications exemplify the standard set by Arthur E. Wallace.
Educational Activities
The Foundation has a long standing history of supporting educational activities that focus on the law, are related to the legal system, and support the growth and academic achievements of our youth.
Mock Trial
For several years we have provided a stipend to the winning high school Mock Trial team to defray the team’s expenses of the State Mock Trial Competition.
We The People & History Day
We have provided funds to the We The People County Champions and History Day County and State Champions to continue their State / National competition endeavors.
Ready Set Back-2-School
In 2011 we began our ongoing collaboration with Child Support Services and other organizations to provide backpacks, school supplies, uniforms, and school readiness support to children who might otherwise not be able to afford the opportunities provided at this event. The Foundation is in support of activities which inspire children to stay in school and value education. Click here to request funding.
Constitution Day Book Giveaway
Since 2009 we donate approximately 400 books annually to elementary schools, libraries, and individual children throughout Kern County on the U.S. Constitution, and the Judicial System. We provide attorney and judicial volunteers to read at various schools and inspired children to take pride in being an American, as well as to respect and treasure our legal system and the Constitution upon which our great country was established.
And So Much More…
We want to continue to bring positive influences to Kern County, to provide our community with a wider scope of the positive impact that members of the legal profession make in Kern County, and to continue to do good in our community for the public at large, but specifically with a focus on our youth, the legal profession and system, and the law. We would love to have you be a part of all the wonderful things we do, and quite frankly we need you in order to make our continuation possible. We hope that you will join us in the work that we do. Please make a donation to the KCBA Charitable Foundation today. Thank you for your generosity!
